useless, defeated silently in 5 secondsMar 02, 2010
By Temur Perkins It arrived today and is going back to Amazon for a refund tomorrow. It looks secure when you put it in place, and feels secure when you test it by pulling inward on the door handle, but test it by going outside pushing on the door and you will be shocked at how easy it is to defeat. The rubber ears on the doorknob end are too flexible and bend out of the way (to the side and down) when you push on the door allowing the door to be very easily opened. The entire top rubber assembly also flexed slightly to the side on the metal pole as it was defeated. It's secured to the end of the metal pole about as well one of those rubber erasers that slip on to the end of your pencil. What's worse is that because the thickest parts of the pole, the top ears and the bottom foot, are made of soft rubber they were silent and made no racket as I pushed on the door. Furthermore since no metal parts hit the floor when it fell to the ground it landed very quietly. The rubber ears are what impacted the floor as it fell to the floor after being defeated, the rubber foot was already on the ground as it fell. I got in the door silently in less than 5 seconds. The tap from a lock bump would be the loudest thing you would hear. Get a puppy from the pound and a 12 gauge instead and sleep well, it's well worth the $400 total initial investment + dog food. I do weigh 240#, but I didn't have to push hard at all to get in. A false sense of security thinking that you would hear some serious racket as this thing got defeated is worse than not having it at all. What I was using before I tried this, and what I will go back to using, was a chair with the legs sitting inside some rubber soled tennis shoes to keep the chair legs from slipping on the floor. Yes I could break the chair with a lot more effort than it took to defeat the MACE Big Jammer, but at least it would make some serious racket as it splintered, and with the door/chair contact being hard material it would also make some noise as I moved the door back and forth trying to get in.

Don't waste your moneyOct 12, 2010
By K. Johnson Tried this on our front door upon receiving it and my 11 yr old daughter was able to push the door in. The reason is the poor choice of materials used in the fork portion holding the door knob. Its soft rubber and when the door starts to press against it, it bends and eventually gives way. This is a complete waste of money. I wasted mine, don't waste yours.

Big Jammer Door Brace...Jan 18, 2007
By E. Fitzgerald
"Ed"
saves the day. It makes my family sleep easier and more secure at night. We're in a two unit apartment building and there is an entry door and hall before our units. The last person in at night places the brace under the knob, so we all know we've eliminated the threat of someone coming in though the front door.
If someone were to try to force the door, (I don't think theres a chance of them getting through the jammer) the worst thing that would happen is that the knob would tighten, making it difficult to turn. We solved this problem after a trial run and found that if you unscrew the knob and reassemble it in the door, it works fine. We think it's due to the stress of the knob against the door. I still can't see any part of the door failing either.
Good Luck!!

Simple and CheapMar 03, 2010
By chillwater This will not keep anyone out of your house for long but they will have to make a lot of noise that will get your attention or wake you up. Enough time to get your gun. Come on, it's 15 bucks.

Best Constructed Door Jam EverDec 27, 2009
By Fixer At Work A friend bought this door jam for me after an attempted break in at our home through the patio sliding glass door while my husband was TDY. We took the rubber door knob piece off and put in a rubber stopper that we found at the hardware store. Then he placed it in the middle of the patio door to secure the door closed because the robber had broke the handle and lock trying to get in. The robber ran away when our alarm went off but the patio door was ruined. This door jam is ALL METAL, my friend found the correct hole for the width of the door, and once it was tightly in place it didn't move. I felt much safer in our home alone with this door jam in place until the patio door could be replaced. Three years later, present time, I gave this same door jam to my friend because her husband is going TDY. Just before the holidays someone tried to break in through the back door. Their alarm went off and four police cars were sent to her home. The police went around back to check the door and saw the foor imprint where the robber was kicking the door but couldn't get in. The police couldn't get in either and after five minutes thought that they had a suspect barricaded inside the house. The police (with guns out) had to open the garage door and go in through the kitchen door to check the house. When they came back outside the first thing they said was how IMPRESSED they were with her door jam and how it was still holding her back door tightly shut even though the robber had kicked it hard enough to activate the alarm and of course break the door frame. My husband put three board across the door and put the door jam back on the door knob to secure the door so that her alarm could be turned on and until the door could be replaced. This is absolutely that best door jam EVER! And that is why I bought two more. But the store had switched to a different one that had a metal rod but a plastic piece for the door knob. I thought if someone kicks the door that plastic is going to break and the rod will just fall over and the robber will get inside. So I had to go online to find the one that I had, the MACE Big Jammer Door Brace, and that is the perfect name for it. I highly recommend this door jam for its quality construction of all metal and two large rubber ends, nothing on this product will ever break.
