Great for those of us storing knives in a drawerNov 27, 2007
By Amazon Shopper2 Like the title says, I do not use a block to store my knives, but do use these safes. I live fairly close to a restaurant supply and can pick these up (and did) for more than the cost here on Amazon. I do not hesitate reaching into the knife drawer and I no longer have to warn my guests about being careful. I also know my blades are being stored well after I hone them and put them up for the night. I have them in all sizes even down to my paring knife. The closure is quite safe as well- 2 tabs (1 for the smaller size) that you really need to press on in order to open. Those of you with young children helping may breathe a bit easier as well when their little hand goes into the drawer.

Just what I needed!Feb 11, 2010
By MestaySS I positively love these knife covers! My personal preference is not to have a knife block on the counter-top. I simply don't like the way it looks, not to mention the fact that it takes up prime real estate on my kitchen counters. When I recevied my new Shun knives, I instantly knew that I needed a cover for protection for their blades, and I also instantly came to Amazon.
This blade cover fits my 7 inch Santoku knife perfectly. I ordered the larger size knife cover (8"-10") for my 8 inch chef's knife - If you have an 8 inch knife, I would definitely buy the larger size - my Shun chef's knife wouldn't have fit in the 6"-8" BladeSafe. Both knife covers fit the knives perfectly and I feel completely at ease putting my prized knives in the kitchen drawer. The BladeSafes take a little bit of practice getting them open. It takes a bit of focus, but it's not hard to open, just safely closed. If you have small children, they likely won't be able to open these.
Bottom line - If you store your knives in a drawer or need to chop that knife block off the counter-top, get these BladeSafes for your knives. They will not only protect your blades, but will protect your hands when you go digging in the knife drawer!

BEST KNIFE BLADE SAVER; SAFE AND SUPER SECUREOct 14, 2008
By Joel I purchased this blade saver for my new R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 8-Inch Chef's Knife. In a nutshell, this saver fits my knife like a glove and is extremely secure.
PROS:
1. Clamshell-design allows you to open up the saver and gently place the knife in the unit. (Unlike other designs where you slide in the blade towards your palm :-/ ).
2. Small rubber 'bumpers' (for lack of a better word) press the blade from either side to safely secure the blade in the saver. This prevents the blade from moving or rubbing up against anything.
3. Secure locking mechanism. Two plastic latches securely lock the blade when you close the saver.
4. Blade is covered at the base of the blade by the saver (opposite end of the blade tip). This essentially prevents a child or whomever from picking up the knife and pulling on the handle to remove the blade without opening.
CONS:
1. Total price, otd, $9.00. Shipping was more than the saver itself.
All in all, the best blade saver you can buy.

Rock solid blade guardDec 01, 2009
By Paul J. Langlois I really was impressed with how sturdy these blade guards were. I have the 8" Forschner Chef's knife, and it this of course fits it perfectly.
There are soft pads inside the guard that pinch the knife securely and keeps the blade from rattling around. At first, this does create a residue on the blade, but after a few weeks the residue no long appears.
I also have used it on my Mac Pro MTH-80 chefs knife - Due to the thinner Japanese style blade, the pads don't pinch so blade guard doesn't hold the knife completely secure, but the blade is still completely protected and safe. Just keep this in mind if purchasing for a Japanese stamped blade. If you have a standard Henckels, Wustoff or Forschner western style blade - you can't go wrong with these.

Easy to use protection for good knivesAug 04, 2009

I bought a Victorinox chefs knife and decided it made sense to protect the blade in my knife drawer. This BladeSafe is a perfect fit and easily snaps on and off. I highly recommend it.
