2Innovative but FlawedOct 06, 2007
By Jeffrey A. Edwards
I purchased the Lasermax Unimax laser for my Beretta PX4 Storm in 9mm. After taking it to the range, I found that after only a couple shot the laser would switch off due to the recoil of the gun. The side to side switch wasn't stiff enough to withstand the recoil of the pistol. Also, dry firing at home would cause the laser to dim sometimes, only to brighten back up after a few more dry fires. I've sent it back into to Lasermax twice now and still have the same issues.

The pulsing dot and the ability to mount more rail acessories under the laser are very innovative, and I think it'd be a fine product, but I'm afraid it has some design flaw that makes it inherently unreliable. This is completely unacceptable for a laser that retails for upwards of 180 dollars. I would steer clear of it and go for a cheaper, more reliable model.

5Awesome laser sight!Sep 10, 2010
By bry
I have tried a few different sights on my HK P2000 and Glock 22, this one is the best! The switch is easy to use on four different guns I have tried it on. It works on the front rail of an AR, but a pistol is easier to use it on. It's small size even allows you to use an Uncle Mike's or similar non-Kydex holster with no trouble at all. It holds zero beter that any laser sight I have ever used!

22 serious fundamental design flaws with the Uni-MaxJul 20, 2011
By Chris Lawson
I'm on' my 2nd Uni-Max on my Gen 4 Glock 17. The first would not maintain zero after firing only a few rounds. I've not shot with the new one yet. There's two fundamental design flaws- 1. They don't fit tightly into the rail space. Lasermax doesn't offer rail "keys" like Streamlight does and this can cause the unit to slip if not screwed in super tight and I've heard of them stripping out as they're easily over tightened. 2. The tightness of the battery door has an affect on the resistance of the on/of switch which is problematic. IOW, if you tighten the battery door too much (as I did because it didn't seem to be tightened down enough)it's difficult to turn on and off. I mentioned this to their customer service and they're aware of it and don't really seem to care. BTW, their customer service leaves much to be desired. I hear that Lasermax is phasing the Uni-Max out. For obvious reasons if you ask me. I'll be leery of Lasermax products in the future because of my experience with the Uni-Max and their customer service.

5Works perfectly on my Beretta M9A1Aug 20, 2011
By Roger J. Buffington
This is a rail-mounted red-beam laser sight. While usually marketed for the Beretta M9A1 and other Berettas, it should work well with any semi-automatic pistol equipped with a tactical mil-spec rail, as is now very common on newer pistols. This sight mounts literally in seconds on the Beretta M9A1. With the supplied adjustment tool the user can adjust the laser dot to be co-incident with the sight picture without firing any rounds at all. I did it in a 25 foot hallway, and the alignment process was quick and intuitive. Once I did this, it only took one minor tweak for elevation to bring the sight into perfect alignment once I got to the range. The sight held alignment perfectly throughout 150 rounds at the range; when I got finished it had held alignment. You do want to screw this sight pretty firmly onto the tactical rail (using a quarter as a screwdriver) My shot groups were as good as I am capable of using this laser sight, and the laser made the shooting experience a lot more fun. I tend to use the laser dot more or less as a substitute for the front sight, and I found that this gave me best results. Also, it is much easier to shoot with both eyes open using this sight than when shooting just with iron sights. In a tactical situation that can be a big advantage. At the range, it is more comfortable.

The sight can be set to either continuous beam or a pulsating beam (it is shipped set to the latter). The pulsating beam takes much less power thereby extending battery life, and is actually easier to see -- most pros recommend this. Unfortunately the setting requires the use of the supplied adjustment tool, and cannot be done "on the fly." I prefer the pulsating beam at all times, so this shortcoming was not a major one to me.

The laser dot is plenty bright for an indoor range at pretty much any distance. Out in bright sunlight, your results will vary. It would be fine for a short-range tactical situation in sunlight but probably not for distance shooting. There is no adjustment for the intensity of the laser dot, by the way.

The sight is activated by an ambidextrous side switch that is easy to activate. I did not have any issues with the switch moving while shooting, and I can activate or deactivate it while maintaining a shooter's grip.

The build quality of this sight is impeccable. Mounted on the Beretta M9A1, it looks as though it is part of the pistol. The sight also has its own rail, so theoretically you could attach an LED spotlight accessory under it, although I have no intention of doing so.

Let's face it; a good laser sight is just plain fun to shoot with. This laser looks wonderful when added to the Beretta M9A1; it is very light and does not noticeably affect the handling or weight of the pistol. And it just plain looks cool. Highly recommended. RJB.

5Quality Laser SightJul 25, 2010
By Collector
I made my purchase based on a number of positive reviews of the Lasermax sight on several handgun bulletin boards. I was not disappointed.
The Lasermax sight is, as stated, no heavier than a .45 cartridge and about the size of a domino tile. It comes factory set with the rapid pulse beam. This can very easily be changed to a solid beam, should you prefer it. I found that I actually like the rapid pulse feature. The illusion of movement that is created by the pulse makes it very easy for the eye to pick up in daylight situations.
Another feature that I liked was the ambidextrous switch. Off is in the center position. Push it from left or right to turn it on.
I am using the Lasermax on a Springfield XDm .45 and have yet to experience any of the problems encountered by the other reviewer.
