5very niceFeb 11, 2008

I bought these earplugs because I really HATE going shooting with my husband & not being able to hear him talk. They work very well. But my main use for them is to protect my hearing while playing the piccolo. You heard right, the piccolo. It produces very high & often, percussive notes. My hearing suffers as well if I have to sit in front of the brass or percussion section. I hate not being able to hear the musicians around me for ensemble & intonation, so these earplugs work perfectly. They only stop up when there is a loud, sudden noise. Highly recommended for shooting, & playing music!

1A little too heavy, stiff, and awkward for my comfort, as well as ineffective.Mar 05, 2010

I purchased these to try them out in construction, rather than shooting, as ear muffs are too cumbersome, not to mention too hot in warmer months. Anyone with the same idea as me, would be advised that the baffle closer doesn't seem to be sensitive enough for even the more dynamic tool loudnesses like pneumatic air-guns being shot while held near your head, much less power-saws of any variety and the like. I haven't actually tried using these while shooting, as I prefer the greater confidence I have in larger ear muffs for that. But, they did me little good in construction. The plugs are more hard plastic than the rubbery material usually used for this type of plug, which makes them uncomfortable and not pliable enough to properly fit my ear. Either due to the stiffness of the plastic or the weight of the baffle, they start easing themselves back out soon after you push them in, making them mostly ineffective even as basic earplugs. Everybody's ear is different, so they might be worth trying for the firing range. But, I'm confident, even if they do work for some ear types, muffs will work a lot better.

1EAR PLUGSOct 24, 2008

VERY uncomfortable! These earplugs are now lying in the bottom of my desk drawer because I couldn't keep them in my ears for more than a couple of minutes at a time. I definitely do not recommend this product.

5Excellent Ear ProtectionDec 15, 2009
By John Lessnau
I have used this for 5-6 hours at a time while hunting pheasant. They are very comfortable, allow me to hear normal conversation and outdoor sounds clearly while providing excellent protection from loud gun shot noise. These work almost as well as my $120 powered ear muffs I wear at the shooting range without getting in the way. I am not sure how anyone could call these uncomfortable unless they perhaps have hyper-delicate ear holes, they are no more uncomfortable than putting cotton in your ears. Cheap hearing protection - Highly recommended.

2almost adequate for short-term occasional useJun 15, 2010

These plugs only form an effective seal if you push them in far enough to be painful. They seem to provide enough protection to guard against intermittent loud noises in an otherwise quiet environment, but are not sufficient for loud environments or situations with extremely loud intermittent noise. They are also much too uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

I think that the reason they are so uncomfortable for me is that in order to get a good seal in the ear canal, they have to be inserted far enough to engage all of the flanges; and once they're that far in, the big back section is pressing against the ear. They would probably be much better if the flanges were closer together -- and the back part was further away from the last one. For people with smaller ears, they may be painful because of the depth to which they need to be inserted. Again, flanges spaced closer together, closer to the tip -- and farther away from the back part -- would allow them to seal without having to go in so far.

It would also be nice to have a cord on them, so that they can be easily removed periodically, to give the ears a chance to recover without losing the plugs or getting them dirty in a pocket.

Good concept -- not such a great application of the concept. More R&D is needed before a new version of these would be worth recomending.

I'm very dissapointed. I would really like a pair of plugs with this level of protection (safe from intermittent loud noises, while able to hear everything else) at this price-point, but these are just too painful to wear.
