5Excellent Product ... You May Need To Customize ItJan 20, 2012
By Morgan C. Valley
Absolutely terrific quality on this mag case. If you have a compact gun with shorter, say, 4" (or thereabouts) length magazines, read on. I'll explain how to customize the product to fit them perfectly. In my case, I bought this magazine case to house 2 extra mags for my Ruger LC9. Although, I have other firearms with similar length magazines which this tweak benefits, too.

First of all, it's a great, heavy duty product designed for long, long life and every day use. It's not coming apart. I think it's a superb value for the price. Enough said. Five stars.

When I unpacked the product I was taken aback by the height of it, knowing that my LC9 magazines were far shorter than the allotted space provided in each compartment. Sure enough, when I seated them in their separate compartments and snapped the flaps closed there was a good 3/4" of air space between the magazine and the inside top of the flap. Gee, I thought, that seems like wasted space, and problematic in terms of maximized concealment.

I then discovered that the padded flaps were actually attached by Velcro to the inside of each compartment, making them adjustable,"internal devices" (as the company describes them). But, they were in as far as I could get them and the undesirable airspace remained. Hmmm. I gave it some thought. My solution was simple, and here's how you can customize yours for the length of your shorter magazines:

1. Remove the padded flap by poking into the compartment and forcing a finger between the hook and loop halves of the Velcro. Simply pull it out.
2. Insert a simple 12" school ruler, a tongue depressor, or similar smooth tool into the compartment and cover up the interior hook side of the Velcro.
3. Take the padded flap in hand and (note the approx. 1" of loop side Velcro on the back at the bottom) fold it in half over itself making sure that the Velcro material is to the outside of the fold. This effectively reduced the Velcro loop material to about 1/2".
4. While retaining the fold, slide the Velcro end of the flap back into the compartment, guided along the ruler (so it can't hang up) and seat it on the bottom of the compartment.
5. Pull out the ruler and give the newly seated, shorter flap a good squeeze for the hook and loop sides of the Velcro to connect.

Now, when you seat your 4" magazine into the compartment, the padded flap should ride right on top of it. No wasted air space.

I hope that's helpful for anyone worried that the pouch might be too big for their smaller, compact guns with shorter single stack magazines. Cheers.
