Description:

It's been observed that fashion is fleeting. What's "in" now will soon be "out" of style. The knife industry, like any other, is subject to the same winds of political correctness and notions of popular taste. At Cold Steel, we try to stay abreast of the currents of change, but we also recognize that good design never goes out of style. The Counter Tac boot knives were designed with this simple philosophy in mind. The full tang blades are made from beautifully polished AUS 8A stainless steel, that's vacuum heat treated, and sub zero quenched for strength. They are hollow ground and end in a sturdy but needle sharp point that's ideal for effortless penetration, and of course the edge is razor sharp. The ergonomic design of the Kraton grip is comfortable and adaptable to any fighting style, and the deeply textured surface and double guard will insure that the knife is not likely to slip from your hand under any circumstances. Finally, each Counter Tac is shipped with a state of the art Secure-Ex sheath, complete with a removable boot/belt clip and lashing slots so you can carry or conceal it just about anywhere.Specifications:- Blade: 3 3/8"- Overall: 6 3/4"- Weight: 2.2oz- Thickness: 4mm- Handle: Kraton- Steel: AUS 8A- Sheath: Secure-Ex

4Outstanding Boot KnifeJan 01, 2010
By Stephen H. Poor
The handle is perfect. Just the right size, shape, and texture. Balance is also just how I like it. When I grip the knife naturally, I can open my hand and the knife will balance on my index finger. The weight is also perfect-- heavy enough that I know it's there and can feel its movements, but light enough to be very fast.

The edges are every bit as sharp as I expect a knife to be. Not the sharpest I've seen, but it shaves my arm easily. The edges are single-beveled, like a chisel or the blades on your kitchen shears. This may cause some trouble for folks who've never sharpened single-bevel blades. The back, as noted in other reviews, is flat (actually slightly concave). Some might find this look off-putting. This gives the blade a squat, triangular cross-section. I would have been happier with a slightly thinner blade, but I must admit, you'll never break this one, except possibly for the very tip. I find even that hard to believe. As a blade design for a fighting/defense knife, this one will probably produce puncture wounds that do not close easily.

The tip itself is NEEDLE SHARP, and I recommend caution if you feel the need to test it by touch. I nearly skewered my finger.

The sheath is almost ideal. The knife clicks in and out with just the right amount of pressure. The sheath holds securely, but not too tightly. A sturdy plastic clip is provided for securing the sheath to your boot, belt, or whatever. This would make an ideal back-up knife, or a primary if you prefer a light, short knife (like my old karate teacher used to favor). It is also of course more concealable and lighter to carry than a big knife.

Cold Steel makes a great little knife, Definitely a great little defense tool. the sheath holds the knife very securely and comes with a long chain to wear around the neck if so desired. Great buy.

5A blade for collectorsMay 22, 2008
By Volker Schroeter "Desert Eagle"
The quality and design of this knife are outstanding. The edge is razor sharp and the tip beats a syringe. Given the steel grade AUS 8A the edge holds longer than that of most other tactical knives - just check out the Rockwell C-scale. It is obvious a lot of research has gone into the design of the blade - the slightly concave shape, the grove in the spine and the extremely polished surface make this a highly effective defence weapon. It is a pleasure to own this knife.

5Very Cool KnifeFeb 27, 2011
By Daniel Lancaster
As a collector of knives, I wanted to buy a high quality boot knife that looks good and wouldn't be a piece of junk. I can honestly say, this knife is far from being junk. All of the materials are very high quality, especially the blade steel. The Kraton handle provides a very secure, nonslip grip. The shape and texture are just right. You'll be able to hold onto this knife in a monsoon. Also, the SecureEx sheath is nice. It has a detachable clip and slots that allow you to lash the sheath to your arm, leg or where ever. This is one of the sharpest knives I've ever owned. You could probably do surgery with it. The point at the end of the blade is especially sharp. Also, the other side of the blade (that you can't see in the pic) is a bit concave, it doesn't have any shape to it. Another reviewer griped about this, but the blade is designed like this for 2 reasons. One, the blade is already thick and heavy as it is. If it were any thicker or heavier, it wouldn't be very well balanced. And two, the blade as it's designed, has a triangular cross section. This is so if you ever do stab some one with it, it leaves a triangular shaped hole that bleeds freer and is harder to repair. Face it people, the whole purpose of a knife like this is self defense. All in all, I think the Counter TAC is well made and very much worth the money.

4Cold Steel Counter Tac II (Killer Dagger)May 17, 2011
By Berz
Video Review - [...]

Summary:
This is a great dagger or boot knife if you will. The quality of this knife is top notch. Very comfortable to wear as well as a extremely grippy handle. Full tang design makes this a very strong design. One down side is the sheath, this knife is hard to get out at times due to how secure the knife is in the sheath. This is my dagger of choice. Rating: 93/100
