Nice little lantern, but not a hurricane lanternMay 23, 2009

This little lantern puts out a nice light and easily burns all night on a tank of fuel, but it is by no means a hurricane lantern. I bought a couple to keep on my boat and tested one extensively over the last week. I hung it in the rigging each night, and found that a moderate rainfall or few knots of wind is enough to put it out. I guess nowadays "hurricane lantern" means a backup for the electricity being out, but it used to mean a lantern that would stay lit through a hurricane. This one won't. It's great for ambience, but don't buy one thinking it will make a good anchor light.
