Great bladeDec 10, 2008
By Chris Brenan This is a very decent blade, especially at this price point. The handle feels very solid in hand, is well textured and has the slightest rubberiness to it (not HARD plastic, but it's not at all "gummy bear" rubbery). I especially like the little flair at the end of the handle, which gives me confidence that the handle won't slip out of hand on a swing, even if my hands were cold.
Balance is about an inch and a half to two inches into the blade from the handle-blade junction.
The blade is solid. I was concerned about there being flex in it, at only 3mm thick, but it has little to no flex (flexing in hand). Nice baked on epoxy coating, good on the carbon steel. The blade is sharp out of box, but not ridiculously sharp. It sliced paper decently. Nice point on it. Not much to say, it is what it looks like.
The sheath is decent at the price, no leather (good), nothing to hold water. Riveted and stitched, plastic guards towards knife-point, unremarkable belt loop, snapping crossover for handle.
Overall, a really excellent large knife/machete crossover at a remarkable price. Everybody should have one.

12 in. blade macheteJul 06, 2009
By Bryan R. Culbertson the 12 in. blade machete from cold steel is a great buy,,has a cordura sheath to protect the blade, which is carbon steel,,not stainless steel,,,,,I thinned out the cutting edge and reprofiled the blade,,put a tungsten carbide sharpener to the edge, then to a steel to straighten the edge and a ceramic steel to finish,,,,this knife will slice a tomato thin enough to see thru,,has a comfortable soft type rubber handle that will not slip when wet,,if you like big blade knives you will like the price and the looks of this Cold Steel Machete with 12 in. blade....
Nice BowieFeb 21, 2010
By gb It is nice and seems sturdy but I have not used it for any heavy cutting yet but I think it will work good. Only complaint is it comes dull.
Great BladeDec 05, 2009
By Zeldafreak This is a really good blade for its price. Very sturdy and durable. They only bad thing is that the sharpness it comes in isn't too great, but sharpen that up and its an amazing product. If you're looking for a great knife that won't break the bank, I would highly reccomend this one.
