 Good Grips for the 1911Nov 12, 2011

I believe that handgun grips should provide a nonslip surface, and the best ones actually seem to almost "grip back." Hogue's soft rubber grips do just that, and these 1911 grips are very good replacements for most hard plastic or varnished wood grips. They are precisely sized for a perfect fit on government and commander models of the pistols (those with full length grips), and installing them is quite easy with a firm grip on a screwdriver that fits the screw slots. I could do without the palm swells featured on these grips, but at the same time their presence does not interfere with maintaining a good grip on the pistol.

I bought these grips to replace the Hogue rubber diamond checkered grips that I bought to replace the hard plastic grips that came with my GSG 1911 22LR. It's not that I didn't like the OEM grips it's just that my hands would get sweaty and my hold on the gun wouldn't be as comfortable as I'd like. The diamond checkered grips were an improvement but they were just too thin. These with the palm swells are almost just right, but the entire grip could stand to be a little beefier. It not like I have huge hands but a good, firm grip is key to fundamental pistol marksmanship and when I apply that grip I feel like there's just not enough meat there - almost, but not enough. I still like them, though, they are much more comfortable than the factory grips and I've been able to print some ridiculous shot groups since I put them on the gun. The only other thing I'd like is if they had a diamond checkered pattern. A little thicker and diamond checkering and I'd have given them 5 stars.
