4Good grip for the Ruger SP101Feb 26, 2011
By Marcus
This Hogue grip is widely used by shooters to replace the stock grip on the the Ruger SP101. While the stock Ruger grip is obviously much better than the old-style hard revolver grips, if you have large hands the stock grip leaves your little finger with little to hold on to. This Hogue Monogrip fills your whole hand, and it makes the SP101 feel like an even more substantial small revolver.

For advanced shooters, higher power ammo is much more comfortable to shoot than with the stock grip, and for novice shooters it also makes learning to shoot the gun with lower power ammo easier.

The material is soft rubber with a pebbled surface on the sides. The rubber is soft enough that it can get cut by sharp objects if an unloaded gun is in a pack or container with other stuff. I believe Hogue also makes similar hard nylon grips, but I prefer this soft rubber.

I'd like the end of the grip to be a little thicker, but the size is a compromise for all size hands. If you have large hands you can put one to three short sections of nominal 1.75" or smaller bicycle innertube around the end of the grip to fill your hand better. It wraps tightly around the grip and the finger grooves.

This grip is fairly easy to put on, but it installs differently than the stock grip. It uses a little threaded clip that mounts in the bottom of the grip frame. You slip the grip over the frame and install a screw from the bottom of the grip. There is no place in the Hogue grip to put the little dissasembly pin that is housed in the stock Ruger grip, but you can just use a large paper clip instead of the pin if you need to.

The only disadvantage is that the grip is obviously longer than the stock grip. So for concealed carry with the 2-1/4" barrel SP101, the gun may not fit in the small-sized fanny packs that a gun with the stock grip will fit. You'd have to go up to a medium pack.

If you install this grip, I'd advise saving the stock Ruger grip and the disassembly pin for if you sell the gun (as well as the case), since dealers prefer everything original for resale.

5Must have upgradeSep 02, 2009
By E. Lowe
This is a highly recommended upgrade to the SP101. It lengthens the handle slightly (now my pinky has someplace to go) and gives the shooter a better feel of control vs. the stock grips. I have large hands and am prone to sweaty hands when firing, so this works the best for me (can't say the same for the high-gloss wood grip I also own which doesn't work well with moisture and recoil...sure looks pretty, though).

4Good AccessoryNov 17, 2007
By Dean
This grip is slightly longer than the stock grip for the Ruger SP101. This allowed me, with larger than average hands, to place my smallest finger on the grip. This give me better control of the weapon. Whereas, with the factory grip my smallest finger was mostly off the grip. It was time consuming to install the grip as I had some difficulty. Once it was installed it fit the gun very well.

5Best upgrade for the sp101Apr 07, 2009

The factory SP101 grips are total garbage! If you want comfort and a good grip then you NEED Hogue Grips. It takes about 5 seconds to install them, It is extremely easy. I can't image anyone having a problem installing these. These grips make a world of difference in the grip. And if you want to be able to fit the gun back in the factory case, just take a knife and cut out a small portion of the case where the bottom of the grip hits. GREAT PRODUCT!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! These should have been on the gun from the factory!!! I was even able to sell my factory grips on a gun forum for $10, which brought my total cost to about $11 for these...What a deal!!!

5Worth every penny !Apr 14, 2010
By Phoof "Phoof"
How can one alteration affect performance? I replaced my stock SP101 grips with the Hogue Monogrip. Not only do I have a more controlled grip but the reduction in perceived recoil is noticeably reduced.

I liked the comfort and feel so much that I replaced my 1911 stock with a Hogue grip. Really amazing how a more positive and secure grip will better your shooting performance. I am sold on Hogue grips.
