I think that the majority of the reviews do not understand thr purpose of this product. It is not intended to enhance sound for the hearing impaired. This is for hearing amplification and protection. (Amplification for those who must wear hearing protection) For those who use firearms whether military or civillian and for those who deal with loud noises that are at dangerous levels, these will muffle any noise above a specific decible level while allowing you to hear when the sound is below that level.
Perhaps if it were advertised for firearm safety accessories or industrial ear protection rather than hearing amplification and protection it would be more easily understood. There are many products that are better and just as many that are worse. For the price, I would not rate it low. It is fairly affordable and worthwhile for what it is meant for.

I bought this product as a "poor man's" hearing aid to use in selective situations. It was helpful at a small theater that did not offer hearing assist devices. I find it less useful in group conversation and hear an echo inside my head when I talk. I also found the tubing that goes into the ear to be a bit short. The volume control is a bit difficult to adjust while on the ear. However I would say that it is worth the $45 for selective use. The vendor was very responsive in shipping.

This was an amplifier that picked up ALL background noises and it was difficult to hear anything in a public place.
