The Spike Spectre Spike 4" Blade

SKU:

GS-8207

This product is currently out of stock
Description:

The Spike designed by custom knife maker Barry Dawson, is a weapon pared down to its bare essentials. Its thick, narrow blade is distal tapered and flat ground to a zero edge. This creates a unique cross section that facilitates both penetration of the tip and cutting power previously unknown in such a thick, narrow blade. The integral handle of The Spike compliments its simple, minimalist qualities. It has been shaped out of solid steel, then wrapped with black cord. All of the hard-corner edges on the grip have been softened or "melted" to be more rounded so their contours won't irritate one's hand. The Spike comes with a sturdy Secure-Ex sheath and steel bead lanyard.Specifications:-Blade: 4"-Handle: 4"-Blade Thickness: 7/32"-Weight: 2.5 oz.-Steel: 420 Sub Zero Quench-Sheath: Secure-Ex

I drew blood within 30 seconds. It's a deceiving knife because it looks so small, but it's all business. It's a very thick strong blade, that fits my large hand well, but still a small knife. Perfect boot knife for me, I'd say. The finish is very good. All eased edges are very uniform and smooth with no pitting. The wrap seems very secure, and the sheath fits, holds, and releases very well. Very sharp.

5The Spike aka the ShankMay 15, 2010

I am in the Army and carry this knife practically everywhere. Multiple concealed carry options thanks so its size and secure sheath. When I show this knife to other people it is often compared to a steak knife, but I would not want to be the steak. On closer inspection of the knife others quickly realize the thick "spine" of the blade makes it strong for such a small blade. The Cold Steel website has video of Spike Knives in action and I have had similar results with my own penetration tests on multiple layers of cardboard. I expect the knife to last for many years to come.

5This is a well made, really cool looking knifeDec 12, 2009

I own several other Cold Steel products and I am happy with all of them. Cold Steel produces many high-end, tactical and/or fighting edged-weapons including knives, fighting axes and swords. These guys take their business VERY seriously. The Spike is one of a series of seven or so small, dagger type knives.

Although they seemed to be designed for self-defense I bought the entire series just to collect. They all feature really sleek, almost menacing lines; ship with a very sharp edge and are made with of high quality stainless steel. They come with a plastic sheath and a lanyard. I have them on display and just like to look at them. This particular design is one of the more straight-forward types, but some of them are quite unique. A knife would not be my first choice for self defense but if you are looking for an inexpensive, collectible, well made dagger this should fit the bill.

4Great handy knifeFeb 22, 2006

This knife is small and light enough to carry it everyday around you neck with provided chain, yet its triangular cross-section(more like a pick) makes the knife sturdy, and its edge and point are quite sharp.

My only complaint: I found out that the mouth of sheath was slightly damaged for some reason when I received the knife, possibly a manufacturing defect. However, since the damage was a slight one and was not the kind affecting performance, I decided to keep it.

5A superb blade! Very sharp, well balanced, cuts quick and smooth.May 18, 2012

I own one of these knives and it's one of my favorites. The solid piece of metal that this knife is made of makes it very certain in your hand, and they also got it very well balanced in my opinion. I don't mean for throwing, since I don't throw knives, but I'd bet it would be great at that too. Despite what the blade looks like (a cross section would be a triangle), it is VERY sharp and cuts through tough stuff very fast and very easily. Be careful, because you can slice your hand wide open and not even feel it, don't ask me how I know. All in all it's a great blade, I think everyone should have at least one if not two or three or four or ... well, you get the idea. Hope this helps!
