4Buy the holsterAug 16, 2010
Keeps the bugs away but for portability, you MUST buy the holster. The butane cartridge heats the screen and combined with the bulkiness of the unit, you may have problems directing the insecticide fumes. We laid our unit down on the picnic table, but had to keep little fingers away from the hot screen. And you MUST keep track of the time on these things. Mats last 4 hours; cartridges last 12 hr. Period.

5So far, so amazing...Aug 16, 2010
I purchased this product after reading a number of other customer reviews. While most of the reviews were positive, others were quite mixed. I decided that for the purchase price it was worth trying.

Normally I try to stay away from the outdoors during the evening. I am VERY PRONE to getting mosquito bites. Typically I will be in an area with a group of other people where I serve as the most effective mosquito repellent for everyone else. During a vacation in the Caribbean with my wife and daughter one evening I suffered 12 mosquito bites before I finally called it quits and sought indoor relief while my family received 0 bites.

I lit up this product for the first time this past weekend while we had company over for dinner. We ate dinner outside and stayed outside for a period of approximately 3 1/2 hours. During this time the evening went from twilight to pitch dark and the conditions made it ideal for mosquitoes - lots of trees and shrubs around, no wind, evening, etc. Not only did not a single person suffer a mosquito bite that evening but I did not even spot one by sight in the area and believe me, I was on the look out for them. We did not supplement this product with any other form of mosquito repellent - no need to.

Keep in mind I have only used this product once so far but on its inaugural use I am EXTREMELY SATISFIED. For the price of 3-4 cans of spray repellent this product is excellent.

5excellent productAug 13, 2010
excellent product!!. I saw this product on some sort of tv show on how to get rid of flying bugs so I figured I would try it. NOTE: (I'v been using off for the last 5 years now but only when they have clearence, it's just to much money.) I bought this from another website and a night when I'm outside with my neighbors having a beer, set this up and it actually worked, worked great too!! I got through almost 1 butain a night with one of the strips that you put in it. I am geting 2 more today!!

5Great for BackpackersAug 08, 2010
Like a number of other reviewers, I didn't think this could work. I just returned from a backpacking trip into the Sierra Nevada in California. Usually, I avoid mosquito season by scheduling the hike after the worst is over. This time, I scheduled the hike, made the plans, and watched from Michigan as snow kept falling well into April. The reports from other backpackers were disheartening.

Well, one of my fellow hikers took the thing along. It is light enough to easily pack. The first night, there were lots of bugs. We tried it. Most of them went away. The second night, there were lots of bugs. We got it going and most of them went away. Etc.

After a few days in the wilderness, a solar shower seems like a wonderful idea -- but that exposes a great deal of skin. We set the shower up in a tree, turned on the device, and took a shower in blissful comfort.

In short, the ThermaCELL really does work.

5I own my porch again!Jul 21, 2010
I couldn't enjoy my porch and front yard due to mosquito problems. I was getting bitten so much it was embarassing for me to wear short sleeves and dresses. I started spraying myself all over with Cutter or Off... only to get bitten in the one square inch of skin not covered in repellant.

I bought two ThermaCELL units. These things really work. I have enjoyed being outside and in peace. No bites. Let me reiterate-- NO BITES.

I considered the Mosquito Magnet and similar units but was hesitant due to so many reviews siting maintenance and breakdown issues. The ThermaCELL covers a decent area for a tiny unit (15 feet square). It's inexpensive enough that you can buy multiple units if you need to. It does warm up. I turn it on and either put it on the table or on the steps, and that's it. No problems. Plus you can buy refills on Amazon with free shipping.

I only wish I had discovered the ThermaCELL earlier in the season. It's great!!!
