That's why we made the True Flight Thrower. The Cold SteelĀ® True Flight Thrower beats the competition by a wide margin. For strength, we use 1055 carbon steel and finish it with a black, baked-on protective coat. This makes for a hard, yet resilient blade that will "bounce-back" from any throw. And for versatility, the True Flight Thrower has a utility edge that will stand-up to your toughest chores. Best Knife I've Ever ThrownMay 29, 2009
By Deveus I ordered two true-flight throwers in a moment of nostalgia for the days back in high school when me and my best buddy would drink beers and throw knives in his backyard. Back then all we had was a Ka-Bar and a Cold Steel Peacekeeper I - both excellent knives, but not exactly meant for throwing. The true-flight, however, is a serious throwing knife, and it is elegantly designed for its purpose.
The knife is of very simple construction - a single piece of 1055 carbon steel with a cord wrapped handle. The steel is thick, and when combined with the large size of the knife - 12" total - you have a heavy-weight thrower that is tough and resistant to damage from ricochets and misses. The weight makes for a great throw - when it hits on target, it really sticks in. The point is sharp and stays so even after many throws due to the hardness of the carbon steel. The knife is balanced almost right at the center, making it easy to throw from either the handle or the blade, depending on your preference.
I wouldn't limit the use of this knife just to throwing. In a survival situation the true-flight would be a good tool to have, and could definitely be lashed to a shaft of some sort and serve as a decent spear. The 6" blade comes razor sharp like all cold steel knives, making it as good a cutter as any. The cord handle provides a fairly good grip, though it might be somewhat abrasive if used extensively for cutting or chopping, and the lack of a hilt or guard might be dangerous if your hand were to slip. Still, the knife does have potential as a utility blade if it were necessary.
All in all this is an excellent throwing knife. It's satisfying, lots of fun, and it could prove quite versatile if the need arose. I highly recommend it.

World's Best Throwing KnifeSep 28, 2006
By Klase Jr. I had been looking at these Cold Steel True Flight Throwers for awhile. I finally ordered one... Oh MAN, this has got to be one of the best throwing knives ever constructed. Perfectly balanced and deadly accurate.
I bought two more the day after the first one I ordered got delivered.
Honestly I will be buying three more, that'll put me at six. Well worth the $29.99 retail price, and at a price under twenty dollars, these can not be beat. I would definately trust my life to one of these knives in a combat situtation. The knife is strong enough to endure all types of punishment. It's a throwing knife that could definately double as a fighting knife or even a utility blade. It seems at though it is as strong as a pry bar, maybe stronger. The size is perfect for close quarters combat, the blade is definately long enough to penetrate into any of the body's vital organs. Not to mention you'd also have an upper hand in a knife fight considering the perfect balance, and the fact it can be accurately thrown deeply into a target.Only thing else I would like to see is a double edged verison of this same knife.

Wish the description was better, but great itemAug 12, 2008
By Y T I ordered this product because I've wanted one since I tried one that a friend had several years ago. The one my friend had was arguably better: the knife was more compact (more travel/carry friendly), and came with a leather sheath (instead of the cheap looking, and probably fragile, nylon canvas that this knife comes with).
For those reasons I much preferred the other knife, but this one is also a very good knife for knife throwing (beginners and up). It is very resilient because it is composed on one solid piece of metal. The design is simplistic enough to look like a cheap stamped out piece of metal, but that design is actually what makes this knife a good purchase for a thrower. It is simple, rugged, thick and heavy. Will stand up to many abusive throws and ricochets.
The description provided for this item is a bit misleading. The dimensions given do not describe any aspect of the item. The blade is sharpened 6", handle is 4+3/8", total knife length is exactly 12".
I actually bought this knife because I thought it was the older, shorter version, and was disappointed to find it is the newer larger model currently sold from cold steel (as of this posting).
One good thing is that the amount paid through amazon, after shipping, was ten less than offered from cold steel before shipping.
Even with the confusion, I enjoy my purchase. Great toy to have around.

Terrific ThrowingMar 17, 2009
By Colonel Doom This Cold Steel Throwing Knife is just what I wanted. This is a fine weapon that every warrior or sportsman needs. The balance is perfect for controlled throwing. With a minimum of practice a combatant can hit the target. This knife is a good weight and is heavy enough to easily penetrate and leave a significant wound. I recommend this product to anyone skilled enough to avoid hurting themselves.

Great Quality Thowing Knife - Highly Recommended!Nov 18, 2010

This Cold Steel Throwing Knife is HUGE, much bigger than expected, and is more along the lines of a "real" knife than my other throwers (i.e. Hibben Original Thrower Triple Set Lg, which I also like... just different). Here are my observations:
+ Well Balanced; easy to find the balance point + Great Looking; black matte finish looks great, no doubt about it + Good Heavy Weight; VERY heavy! More than enough to stick in a pine board when thrown from 12' + Quality Metal; tips have held up well, despite having hit the floor more than a few times + Belt Sheath; good quality, but could be better
We bought two of these and have been very pleased with the throwing performance as they work well for both straight and rotation release.
I really like the paracord wrapped handle as well, making it more comfortable to grip as a regular knife. The blade does ship VERY sharp and holds an edge very well.
Highly Recommended!
